Through the City of Boston Streets Cabinet internship experience, high school students connect transportation planning concepts to field-based public service.

Overview

The internship phase introduces students to transportation planning, bike safety, active transportation, public engagement, field observation, and implementation. Students learn how small-scale interventions can improve access, safety, and confidence for youth and families using bikes and public space.

Bike Towns

Students support pop-up learning spaces where children practice safe riding in low-stress environments.

Bluebikes fieldwork

Students observe bike-share use, support intercept surveys, and examine barriers to access.

Public recommendations

Students translate field observations into posters, findings, and practical suggestions.
